Main issues

Ethics, quality, and professionalism are the core of DMR's activities. In addition, DMR has chosen to focus on three main issues, which each in their way may contribute to the development and improvement of the framework conditions for the consulting trade in Denmark.

Better Tenders - Better Consulting

Buying consultancy based on tender regulations is a challenge - for client as well as consultant. Tender regulations must obviously be observed. However, purchase of consultancy is very different from purchase of physical products or building and construction projects.

A straightforward dialogue and clarification of mutual expectations are of the essence. Therefore it is not viable that public suppliers uncritically use experiences and processes from these areas when buying consultancy - or for that matter look at the price only.

Today, many potential providers of consulting services choose not to work with the public system. Noone gains from that - least of all the tax payers. It is therefore a core task for DMR together with the providers to ensure better tenders. This will give better tenders, better advice, and more successful projects.

Public Business Development - Use the Consulting Trade in the Optimal Way

It is in the best interest of society to make it possible for entrepreneurs and small companies to increase their potential. There is no doubt that professional and qualified advice can add to this, and the companies should be informed accordingly.

Therefore, it is extremely worrying when it is claimed that a few hours of free "consultancy" from public business service centres etc. will make the necessary difference.

Professional advice is specialized, targetted, and trade specific. Consequently, public business development should concentrate on informing companies about why and how they may benefit from co-operating with consultants. If consulting trade is to be supported financially, the support should be given directly to the individual company. Use the established consulting institutes better and more in business development - that will increase growth.

The Public Sector as World Class Provider

The public sector can be an important driver of development. Also within consultancy and analyses. In stead of  building up expertise - for instance in evaluation institutes - the public sector can be a professional, determined, and innovative supplier of such services, and thereby strengthen the Danish consulting trade.

Public world class tenders contribute to growth and knowledge building with a strong export potential, which the establishment of public advice and evaluation institutions will do only to a very limited extent.
